This reminds me of when I was a little kid and the TV show MASH went off the air.

i remember an interview with allan alda after that in which he said during the airing of the final episode of MASH he went out for a walk and the streets were empty, because everyone was inside watching the show.
i can't remember the details (where he lived, etc.) but that always struck me as a very cool situation to think about.
