actually, stealing software costs development companies tons a year. and, anyone who says differently knows nothing about the industry.
game developers spend millions every year to find ways of protecting their hard work. and, every year they lose money because people dupe their games over and over again.
if, your 'friend' can't afford windows xp, then use linux or even beos (which is specialized for things like music software and systems) which are free available. ignorance is no excuse. it isn't hard to learn how to use linux or other alternative os's.
as someone who now writes software and manages servers i can safely say i would feel violated to see my hardwork freely available somewhere when i never said it could be.
why should i spend my time and effort to make something if people aren't going to respect it?
it is childish. face it, there is no excuse for being a theif...no matter how you try to sugar coat to sleep at night. if that makes me an asshole...so be it...i'd rather respect the people who commit their lives to something, than be the kid who steals it.
