I think everybody is bugging out on vena because he is pontificating when we all know he likely uses at least one illegal software install (like the rest of us) which is just as bad as ripping off font designers.
vena seems like a big winer. but he's got a point. in a perfect world font designers should get paid. I suspect font designers well know what they are getting into when they design a font though and they don't expect to make much money.
I have mixed feeling about that. Some would say that this inspires true creativity in that a designer made the font out of pure love for the art and not money etc.
regardless, the reality of the facts on the ground are that font designers don't really get paid until their fonts are picked up by designers who work for big companies who decide to use them... so that ain't going to happen until designers share them and they become popular.
so get over it. you can't stop designers from sharing fonts just like you can't stop designers from sharing software or ripping design styles. a good artist is a good thief....
