I disregarded NS47 for several reasons:
- The site is massive driven by a content-management system using upwards of 27 templates
- CSS allowed for a lot of creative options for both design and coding that would have been out of the question in HTML
- Not in the budget to code separately for 4.7
- Every other PC browser & version above 4.7 renders the site perfectly
My own personal reason is that NS47 is nearly 4 years old (maybe more, i'm not sure), so it's time to stop caring about those who have actively chosen NOT to upgrade.
This viewpoint is elitist to a degree, but unlike other similar market decisions like forcing consumers to abandon vinyl albums in favor of cheaper CD's or even HDTV digital broadcasting standards, this one won't cost the user any money. At least for right now, it's not going to cost anyone a dime to upgrade from an antiquated browser such as 4.7.
And my final rational for the site looking screwed up in NS47 is that those who use it are probably used to seeing sites that don't look right.
