You can take GO Transit from newmarket into Toronto. A lot of people do it. But coming from the UK, you would hate the commute time, it would probably be anywhere from an hour to hour and half. Each way. Most agencies are right downtown. There are some print shops though in the markham, north toronto area that cater to local clients.
If your wife has a job in Newmarket you could move to north york (north toronto), it's not exactly the pretiest place to live, but it would equal out your commute times. And it's pretty cheap in that area to live.
