Commuting from Newmarket to Downtown Toronto isn't too bad. I drove it for 4 months. The train ride is about an hour and 15 minutes. Driving can range from 45 minutes to 3 hours. Bus takes about an hour heading north at night, not sure what it's like in the morning.
