i worked at a paper that did things this way, is it prestige?
either way, the guys i worked with wrote a php processor to strip the quark tags out of the text and convert them into viable html...
it was a big undertaking...
but it worked pretty well
the system spit out a lot of xml and we cached the result html
i wrote the part that checks to see which xml files have changed and triggers a re caching
