I read a bit about this yesterday. I definitely want to watch this documentary tonight:

    Panorama

    Monday 14 May
    8:30pm - 9:00pm
    BBC1
    Scientology and Me

John Sweeney investigates the Church of Scientology, endorsed by some major Hollywood celebrities, but which continues to face the criticism that it is less of a religion and more of a cult. Some former members claim the Church uses a mind control technique to put opponents at a psychological disadvantage. During the course of his investigation, Sweeney is shouted at, spied on, visited in his hotel at midnight and chased around the streets of LA by strangers in hire cars.

Since I work right across the road from the 'church of scientology' on tottenham court road, I find them quite amusing but also a bit sinister. The fact they recruit by telling people they have issues – preying on the easily influenced. Obviously they have a right to exist but I don't think any 'religion' that has a trademarked name, or has to charge ever increasing fees for membership can be a proper religion, that and the fact it was founded by a science fiction writer.

Still to me it's all a joke. If they ever ask me if I want a free stress test, I always just reply "no thanks I've already attained operating thetan 7' and the look of shock on their face is enough to know they won't bother me again.
