depends on what u r aiming at, Modeling in Modo and Lightwave (they are the best) The render engine is awesome in Lightwave too. C4D is sweet, robust and easy to use, that is why is an industry in Motion Graphics. Maya is great for character animation but not very user friendly.
Too bad there is no XSI for Mac T.T I would go for that
