    Can't lose what you weren't ready to win in the first place.

    Unless the definition of winning was putting a bunch of huge ass military bases in the middle of a failed state, suffer low-intensity conflict for decades and the resulting slow daily accumulation of casualties of same, and protecting enough oil outflow to make it almost worthwhile, but at least line the pockets of the defense corps that threw their political muscle behind selling it, then the thing was lost from day 1.

    I mean if winning meant actually setting up Iraq as a working functional government that would be friendly to the US then that objective was lost in the desert sands a few years back.
