My problem with guns (aside from the potential for accidental discharge) is that the wielder is abstracted from the process of infliction more so than with knives, lead pipes or pieces of rope [in the study with Colonel Mustard] - it takes a lot less to pull a trigger than to brutally harm someone by your own force.
That, and I can't think of any useful purpose (in practical terms) and know of NO ONE I would trust to possess one.
