moldero, that's probably why the gun registry here in Canada doesn't make much sense. Because the people who register guns aren't the criminals, they're the everyday citizens. Not that guns are legal here anyway.
However, police departments commonly use it to allow police officers to check if a residence or property might contain a registered firearm before responding to a call, and have used the registry when applying for search warrants and wiretaps.
It has actually helped with giving extra info to police that could help.
