If you have your heart set on DT then by all means. Its just hard for me to imagine living here with prices what they are. Your money goes further elsewhere. There are nice parts of downtown for sure, but unlike most cities, LA rolls up and closes its doors at 6pm and most streets become camp grounds. But if you have a motorcycle, it makes for some fun times. We play dodge the crackhead in the middle of the night on our bikes...so fun!
There are a few nice buildings on figueroa you might check into near the disney concert hall, good luck.
