I remember my dad listening very closely to the radio when the conflict finished ( I was an army brat and we were based in Bielefeld in Germany at the time). His old C-in-C was over there and was the one who eventually announced the surrender. When you're in or involved in the forces these things have a peculiar resonance. Seeing the pictures of the Sheffield (I think) blowing up still seem very vivid to me. And I have heard some stories about some of the things that when on over there. It was a mercifully short but quite brutal war. Anyway enough gung ho stuff, respect and remember I say. For those on both sides.
