I'm from FLA. Most of my extended family lives an hour north of Orlando in hicksville. It's kinda depressing, even since my childhood much of the Ocala national forest has been levelled so long walks through the middle of nowhere are becoming pretty rare.
Eveyone covered Miami above. I'm a surfer, so I love parts of Florida, but in the better known surfing locations there is zero culture. There might be some design work to be done in Jacksonville, not sure tho. Orlando has several good design firms, I imagine the AIGA has a presence there if you can tolerate the circus and tourists.
Parts of the Gulf are gorgeous, we went to Seaside for our honeymoon and loved it. Zero design scene.
Some nice places to live in FLA. If you want work, I think Miami & Orlando, possibly Tampa, are your only options.
