  BlueOne is right. From a Darwinian reductionist perspective, being "religious" is heritable. For example, Christians have loving nurturing communities, inner peace, hope, joy, etc... this is attractive to potential mates. They are far more likely to reproduce than say... the angry, hopeless atheist.

  as much of a meat grinder the modern world is, our secualr, technical socities have empowered individuals in a way religion never has.
