Blue, you beat me to it.
Fundamentalism, or really in this case, opposition to new ideas/preservation of the status quo is a normal part of progression (or even evolution).
And obviously, religious fundamentalists are not solely responsible for this.
And MY point was that not ALL religious fundamentalists say what you say they do, nor do they all say the same things, for that matter. The most extreme are always the loudest. It's a fallacy to assume all "Christians" believe a certain thing just because one does.
Also, I think it's possible to believe in God and science at the same time.
