the only reason why i suggested using valid css was because you mentioned that some 'tricks' that worked in IE didn't work in Safari.
it's not a rule and it has nothing to with corporations or money (http://alistapart.comhttp://movableparts.comhttp://zeldman.com <- all independent standard advocates)
keep it ghetto, if you like, but don't complain if your ghetto design doesn't work in X browser.
