is this to redesign ur digital or physical portfolio?
1 - label everything CLEARLY (inc. Dates, Tools Used, Preoject desc (not more than a paragraph)
2 - have 5-8 pieces of work (any less u will look lazy any more ppl will start to lose interest.
3- spend a LOT of time + B/S/T designing your own letter head/email template (beacues that is often your first point of contact with an agency
4 - dont just make ONE portfolio - print/design all pages but then only include the ones that are relevant to the job ur applying for (ie dont show loads of website wen ur applying for a book publishers + vice versa)
5 - get How to Be a designer without losing yoursoul - A.Shaughnessy - It will tell you EVERYTHING u need to know to answer ur question.i am in the same position you are - but these to me sound like the most obvious things to do
