ah, you poor devil - that's what you get for living in the future, i guess - can't have everything if you've got the benefit of hover-boots and protein pills!
I now notice you specifically said 'NOT Barcelona'. My bad.
I think, overall, unless you're incredibly talented and lucky, Spain's not the best place to go and look for the average well-paid design job. There're already a lot of talented people there, scratching around for the same small pool of work.
If you're content to get a less glamorous job and put up with it whilst you build up a pool of freelance work (esp. from ex-pats etc), you can make a good career - but you'll just need to be patient and content working on less-than-inspiring commercial projects.
Best listen to someone else though - i've never done design work over there and am basing my opinion from what i know of friends who work in the very north and very south of the country - ie. not he big metropolitan centres.
Whatever - good luck! - it can be a wonderful place to live - the cost of living is cheaper and can be more enjoyable and satisfying than an better-paid position in London could garner.
(It's amazing how much shit one can write on a net forum on a sunday evening when one is avoiding one's own work..)
