ya know..when i was in college studying this stuff, there were only a handful of us that were actually competent artists..in the sense of being able to draw fairly well...the rest of my class could barely get it together to do a stick figure..
but by the end of third year, most of them had improved dramatically....
and more important than that, its no that often that i'm required to draw something freehand in this line of work...
the good thing is that when i do have to, i'm able to...but as the old man once said...you don't have to know everything...you just have to be able to hire those that do...
in other words, if a kick ass illustration is required in a job, you hire a kickass illustrator..or you go to a stock site like istsock.com and purchase it...helps if you can do your own..but it aint neccesary ...
also, some of the cats in my school that sucked the worst at drawing also happened to be some of the best when it came to design in general (good use of type, layouts etc)
