I can't undertand why anyone would be a conservative. Actually I can. People like familiarity. The very concept of conservatism is to 'conserve' ie keep things the same.
The very idea that a political party would not want to change as the world changes around them worries me slightly. As the Buddah said:
"Nothing remains without change."

Not to 'avoid change' as you like to frame it.
As you have shown, It also means different things to different people, hence the difference in falvours aross the world and within epoch, 'Thatcherism' being one I am sure you're familiar with
