I've had my PSP for about 2 months, and i bought it a version 1.5 firmware. Just google PSP and 1.5 and you will see what the psp is truly capable of. You can run all emulators, SNES, NES, Mega drive etc. Sony have tried to lock them down with all the latest firmware but if you can downgrade to 1.5 you're sorted. You can also play games off the memory card. Even if Sony are releasing the PSP2 soon (which I 've heard isnt til 09?) you can be sure they are going to lock it down hard so you can't run anything except what sony lets you, a current PSP with custom firmware is the way to go.
