there are several million in the greater metro area, but anyway –
you have to imagine you're the police captain that gets word of something that could be a bomb under bridges and near T stations... then you have to imagine you're Menino who gets a call from the Boston police department saying there's a potential bomb situation... none of the decision makers were on the street, and none of them will do anything less than assume that it could be the worst.
the only real moron is the first person who unknowingly cried wolf, and set off the post 9-11 paranoia machine.
