okay this was really bonkers. uninstalled the player. installed it again. did a restart. nothing. uninstalled it. installed it. nothing. checkd all kinds of system andinternet explorer settings. nothing. all this time mozilla's flash was working. so i uninstalled flash once again. did a restart. and right after restart went to macromedia's site to do a new install. and voila, everything is working just fine.
me or my computer must be going mad ;)
