to do this yourself - you'll need a projecter (8mm projecter can be picked up for cheap, though 16mm expensive) - then use a dv cam to shoot off the screen. Then convert your dv footage for dvd.
Is really the only cheap and at home way to do so.
Some labs use this technique, but obviously less home-brewed. Others will actually telecine your footage, hence the higher price.
