You did the smartest thing to not go over there really, calling the cops was your best option. Next thing you know, that guy has a vendetta against you and instead of coming home drunk to break things in his house he comes to yours.
I don't think I'd go over either, but for some reason the exact opposite happens to me when I see shit like that actually go down, haha.
