I used to live in RI.

For riding bikes: Bristol (on the east side of the river, south of Providence), Narragansett (where i lived – gorgeous beach town), or Jamestown island, halfway across to Newport.

Vegetarian places: Not being one myself, I'm not sure; however, RI has some of the best food I've ever had. I think there are two restaurants on Wickenden (very close to RISD) that have good veggie stuff: an Indian restaurant and a Thai place, across the street from eachother. Can't remember the names, but they're right off 95, go west-ish on Wickenden. Wickenden Pizza is the first option for good pizza, it's just up the street from the Indian place.

If you like Italian and have cash to spend, go to Al Forno. Best Italian food in the country, period.

The Ocean Mist in Matunuck has great food in a divey bar right on the water. Watch people surf the point while chowing down on some bbq quesadillas. The list goes one...there are too many good places in Narragansett & Newport to mention. There's a bed & breakfast in Newport that has an insane Sunday brunch. Called Castle Hill or something like that. The White Horse Tavern in Newport is the oldest operational restaurant in the states, founded 1628.

Brown U has plenty of b'ball courts.

Not very many options in terms of galleries...the best areas are close to RISD, and in the old downtown area. There are plenty of galleries in the beach towns, but it's mostly your standard seashells and pastel bullshit.

Hope that helps? RI is a great place. Enjoy. However, FYI, I met more selfish assholes there than anywhere else, ever. And I was only there for a year.
