You mean 'football' football - not the American version, where the feet are less often used?

A long long time ago, I used to do work on a few sports (footie) websites (*shudder) and when I researched then, I noticed that, despite the large sums of money, the design (especially typographical) was fairly conservative / dire. Clubs tended to take their lead from their heritage/crest, so there were lots of simple, bold classical serifs (Man U, por ejemplo) or indiscriminately plain (and bold) serifs (Newcastle Utd, Chelsea)

I'd take a look over at something like nikefootball.com and see what emergent clubs will likely be modelling themselves against over the next 5 years, or see what's considered fresh and relevant - those guys spend a fortune getting it right, why not take advantage?

I'm no typophile, but I would stay clear of from American 'Lethal-Weapon'-style sans-serifs that look like their moving at 60 miles an hour. Unless, of course, you did mean American football!
