I showed my wife the iphone (she's a bit of a technophobe). As soon as she saw that it used the same GUI as our macbook she got it. She has a basic nokia which drives her mad.
This she understands. So it's not just aboout image (though that counts for a lot). It's about everything modern phones (and pcs) are not - user friendly.
