those are the protoform bodies they had before they were re-formated into the bodies you know of from 1984.
the protoform wasnt introduced into the transformers history until Beast Wars and Beast Machines animated series.
its the beasic body before any formating occurs being both autobot or decepticon or predacon etc...all transformers are protoforma and hold no allegance to any party until their source code is initialized.
their bodies should then be weird as its alieness is just a proto or unfinished.
