in my experience very few first time clients are comfortable with an open-ended arrangement like that

(Dec 27 06, 12:26)then you're either not selling correctly to the client whereby you need to get on top of the situation or they are very stiff. I've worked with clients ranging from chinese take-aways to European football tournament organisers and they all understood the terms of my contract before i started any work. :P
