I think it's down to size basically, no?
The graphire are smaller, cheaper consumer models, whilst the Intuos are bigger, slightly more sophisticated models for studios and 'professionals'
I don't think graphire have shortcut keys and I wonder whether their sensitivity levels might be slightly different? No matter though, 512 seems plenty for most photoshop/ illustrator work.
the key consideration when buying a tablet (imo) is size. Go as large as you can afford - especially pertinent today with the large monitors we are accustomed to - remember, more space at hand equates to more finesse on screen.
I've had an a5 intuos for 6 or 7 years - i've dropped it repeatedly, burnt it, left it derelict, had it too near heaters and too near cold - and it still works like a charm. It probably hates me, but it never lets me know.
If anyone (rich & generous) has read this far - I'd like a Cintiq for christmas, thanks :)
