don't even consider the core system... get the one with the hd and component cables.
how old is the kid? if very young maybe cars or viva piniata? oh, definitely lego star wars. young or old. maybe marvel alliance if older.
for you, get gears and dead rising... rocks. of course there is oblivian if you have a hundred hours for fun.
