    Mimio: It comes down to how one defines "tolerant". I think the issue is that we apply our own subjective definition here. I would contend that the tenets of Christianity do promote tolerance. We are to love our enemies and bless those who persecute us. Convenient that you left those tenets out. I'm to pray for those who seek to harm me. We are to follow Christ's example of loving and serving others, regardless of race, color or creed. You mention hellfie a lot, but any literate Bible student knows that this is metaphor for an eternity of anguish due to separation from the love that could have been freely received. You neglect to mention this free gift which is available to all.

    Finally, you have a very limited scope with regard to mainstream Christianity. Every prominent church within the pale of orthodoxy, be it Baptist, Methodist, PCA, Nazarene, etc... etc..., agree on the essentials. It is the peripheral issues they disagree on - which the Bible specifically says are issues of conscience, not essentials.
