Have just received the first feedback on the site we have produced. On Design Aesthetics:
Search Engine spiders cannot read images. By placing a large image bearing the logo
and name of the site right at the top of the web pages, the spider gets hindered from
moving freely towards the rest of the content and images on the page, and would thus
affect the ranking of the site.
Search Engines clearly prefer sites that avoid using an image for the background. It is
frequently large, since it takes up the whole screen and slows down the pages. Also,
research shows that background images make it harder for people to read. It also
becomes tedious for directories where human indexing of the site is required as they are
submitted numerous websites everyday out of which have only to select a few. Time is
precious on the Internet, so use it wisely.I think they would like to see black text on white backgroud to me.
