so here's a situation : a hypothetical employee, let me call them 'me', was shown in spreadsheet format a 1700$ bonus by a manager that was calculated by a variety of factors, told that i will be paid this in two weeks and that i did an excellent job in 'qualifying for a nice christmas incentive', then on payday was not paid the bonus and was told that i don't qualify for it and that in fact i never had because these factors wern't met to qualify...i got nothing and they got new numbers that seemingly have dimished below the qualifications for little to no articulated reason...my question to them is where did this spreadsheet come from and why would it state that they'll pay me anything at all if i didn't meet the numbers? they seem to reiterate that i never qualified for it. this missing spreadsheet info and this manager's conversation must make them liable to pay me or something.
