if they're not badly harmed why not capture and release?
as if killing two rats is going to put a dent in the possible infestation issue. you think talk will go around amongst the rat community about your torturing them to death?
where you should be focusing your attention is in sealing the entry points in your house. they're just cold. can you blame them really?
