I'd actually like to know what happens to the song too.
If it stays on the HD that's b.s. Not only would it take up space but I suppose the next time you link your Zune to your pc it's going to suggest to you that you buy the song. Cha-ching.
If the Zune deletes it how? When? Wouldn't that choke the battery?
What a mess.
