it's often played with different materials. The old magic trick is just called the 'cup and balls' trick.
On the street it's often played with walnut shells and peas, and so is called the 'shell and pea'
A similar trick with cards is called 'find the lady' when 3 cards are shuffled around and punters have to guess which card is the queen.
