i agree is is useful at work. people yammering away on the phone next to you, people having a lively discussion outside your cube. i prefer something covering my ears too. but what i am talking about is the need for something while one drives, the need for incessant noise rather than silence.
unless you can't handle the quiet. which i can understand; silence is often louder than noise.

I can't stand it when the music is blasting away at all times. There has to be silence once in a while. I absolutely love music, but sometimes it does get to a be a bit much.
