you bastard- i was lying awake in bed last night thinking about this stupid thread.
re: Target- i can see if the new client has referenced target as a comp to their project then it is worth exploring. i am w/ diggity though- i hate that site. i think the expereince paths are silly and the IA (granted there is a butt-load of content to contain) is very poor. i get lost in dead-ends constantly and i think the hand-holding style of 'no, no this is where you want to go' is annoying. this site also reminds me of www.homedepot.com which i only cannot stand slightly more than target.com. that is another reason i do not like it.
i got tons and tons of what i consider great experience design sites, but hardly an ecommerce one i have realized (at about 1am in bed, mind you). made me really start to consider that fact and if i just do not like commerce sites (bullshit as i use them constantly) or i never weigh them like product/service sites?
anyway- sites that might qualify for yer needs:
http://www.t-mobile.com
- might not be an exact model, but i have always liked the experience of this site from nav to find product- through to purchase completion. it has only gotten better IMO.http://www.us.kohler.com/index.j…
- really efficient UI and great expereince. i love the mix of motion and content to heighted the product.http://www.ikea.com/
- this is a good example of simple, get-me-to-the-product expereince that works great. the fact that on top of all the cool graphical treatments and budget HUGE probably had on this one, the fact that they put a drop-down menu in there rules. so easy to use, approachable, and to the point. love it.HTH duder...
