    A lot of it has to do with presence and how and if you earn respect. It's true that respect is usually given to those a lot older than you just because, so it takes more effort if everyone is similar in age. They're probably thinking something like, "we're all the same age and therefore we all have the same experience, meaning that we are at the same level." Of course this isn't necessarily true, so I think I would agree with harlequino about earning respect.

    Or you could just shoot them in the leg everytime they do something wrong. That also works.
