one of my all-time favorites. the way they shot julien's subjective POV, using this rig attached to the camera body [from the actor], so that the actor is frozen in the center of the frame, is ridiculously beautiful, especially when it's a series of still frames put together in a montage, which creates this choppy, jumpy feel...
as a sidenote, i spent a week writing with werner herzog 2 summers ago in san francisco, hanging at his apartment, drinking his coffee, and it was fantastic. he's really the most brilliant intellectual, without any arrogance or pretensiousness, and it's funny to watch julien donkey boy and hear him speak, since it's so similar to the crazy messages he used to leave on my answering machine....it was the experience of a lifetime...in a world of posers, herzog is a real artist
