st.andrews is a funny place. i grew up about 15mins away and went to high school there.
its a strange old town that attracts old retired people (for the golf) and stuck up students that dont get into Oxford or Cambridge.
as its a smalltown the rougher locals have the ol' smalltown mentality "you're not from around these parts are you boy" - and spend their time at the weekends beating up students.st.andrews uni actually has one of the worst student assault rates in the UK. one year when i was at high school - ALL the freshers that year were issued with personal attack alarms - no joke!
i spent most of my teenage years bumming about boyracing around st.andrews, parking up down the beach and smoking joints and playing footie and generaly fannying about on the beach.
very beautiful beach and a nice town to visit (just avoid bars like "The Tudor" and "The Stables").
the programmer at work went to uni in st.andrews, i showed him this bill murray link today and we were chatting about the random stars you see in standrews during the summer when the dunhill is on.
cos its such a wee town there are no 'explusive' areas other than the Old Course Hotel so you see stars wandering about the town in and out the shops etc. one of his mates saw John Wayne in the que in Woolworths lol. I've seen Sean Connery down near the 18th before.oooo! lol
excuse the rant ... ive had some beers
