  I only use XML in Flash when I don't have the need for MySQL databases (CD-ROMs, portfolio content -URL and text, etc.). For a dynamicly changeable database (newsfeed, event calendar, forum, external XML parsing) i'll use only PHP and MySQL. My opinion is that only the necessary tools to fetch the information are advisable.
