N. Korea's gotta nuke

around this matters there's this argument that I (a socialist - which in Portugal is the equivalent to US democrats) find hard to fight, except with bluntness, and a dubious moral stand:
they say: "if you have nukes, why can't we have them"?
i say: "because you're not reliable."
they say: "Well, you westerners are not reliable either. Look at History. You in the West used Nukes before."
i say: "You're right. We have no excuse for that. That's why we're so politically correct. But you still can't have those. You're just doing nukes to prove your technological worth."
they say: "Of course. We have the same technological worth."
that's when everybody SHOULD say: "Ok. so let's all put nukes aside, without fearing each other."
my point is: Progress is based on energy control. We should look for alternative sources of energy that are not potentially lethal, and refrain from certain knowledge. If we really want world peace. If we don't, well then we are on the right track.
