i was married.
when i asked her, i got down on a knee and handed her the most godawful ring i could find. it was costume jewelry and you could see where the diamind (huge rhinestone) was pasted in.
she looked at it... and looked at it. and then acted really surprised and happy. then she showed it to her mom and her mom said it was beautiful. i could tell they were just being nice, so i pulled the real one outta my pocket. it was fucking sweet. DAMNED pretty ring.
anyway, i figured if she bitched about the cheap one, then i would call it off right then and there. but she didnt, so i gave her the nice one immediately and she dug it.
i didnt do anything really fancy though. glad i didnt go all out now. i found out quickly that she was not quite what she had claimed to be... and i had known her my whole life. boy did i ever learn my lesson.
just be careful. dont jump into something like this with romantic notions. if something isnt right, then wait. there is no hurry. really.
