The single point that trumps all on this subject is this:
Since the dawn of time, there has not been one single human being who has undoubtedly explained the reason for our existence, scientific or spiritual. We have every reason to engage in spiritual activities, based on many pieces of emotional and immaterial evidence, when science, logic and reason cannot (a) explain the creation and the Big Bang, (b) explain the space and void in which our universe exists and (c) throughout time has been proven to be wrong on many other issues and that we are still learning.
We have an obligation as human beings and people to believe in a series of standard, agreeable, spiritual rules in order to progress as a species. Living your life by a blueprint of religion or science simply limits you in terms of what you can do, because you've signed yourself away.
As the evangelicist says in the Dawkins video, posted yesterday:
"By all means search for scientific fact, reason and logic, and debate these, but please, along the way, do not be so arrogant to believe that your beliefs, because they appear logical, are better than spiritual ones"Or in the words of Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black: "1000 years ago everybody KNEW the Sun was the centre of the universe, 500 years ago everybody KNEW the world was flat, and 5 minutes ago you believed you were alone on this planet". Then you see Will Smith's very humble face. WE SHOULD ALL BE WILL SMITH IN THIS ARGUMENT
