yeah, you can do both for sure. trying to remember what i did. think we took the interbus to arenal then the interbus to montezuma. then public bus to santa teresa (public bus not so pleasant but it might have been the only option) and then flew back to san jose from nicoya peninsula. or you can rent a car but it's expensive and its very bumpy slow driving. but you that's definitely an option too. the small plane totally freaked me out. it was very very windy and it was swaying all over the place and then we skid 50 feet when we landed! stayed for 16 days
